I’m excited about summer. Hot weather means pool parties every weekend! In Dallas, the weather is already hitting the 3 digits so staying cool is always a way to get a treat. I am a fan of making frozen popsicles at home & keeping them in the fridge so when I get home I have something that is not loaded with sugar and have pieces of real fruit in it.
So now that my popsicles aren’t loaded what can I load them with? PROTEIN! I have partnered up with the Fit Approach and Bob’s Red Mill I did receive protein powders to try for myself in exchange. All opinions are my own.
I got this awesome variety of powders to try. Bob’s Red Mill products are gluten free, organic, and have probiotics so they are not just good for you, they are great! After working out I will also want to get protein in & since these had 20 grams of protein, I’ve been using the shaker for the ride home.
I tried all of them and my favorite flavor for popsicles is Chocolate as I’m a major chocolate lover.
Here is what you will need:
- 1 scoop of Bob’s Red Mill Chocolate Protein Powder (1/3 cup) with 20 grams of PROTEIN!
- 1 cup of soy milk (or favorite milk)
- 1/2 cup of unflavored greek yogurt
- 6 frozen berries
- popsicle mold
- large measuring cup
I used a popsicle mold that has a “stick” already so no need to buy sticks.
I took the soy milk, greek yogurt and protein powder into the blender. Blended till it was nearly frothy.
I poured the mixture into a measuring cup with a lip so it would pour easy into the popsicle mold. Of course I did manage to make a small spill!
Then I added some frozen berries to each cup. Remember that liquid expands when frozen so don’t fill to the brim because when you are eating these it will not catch any drip in the holder part.
I put these in overnight. Run warm water to have the popsicle come out clean and not break. ENJOY! I’ve been having these all week – and there is ZERO guilt. I’m eating these because I love myself THAT much.

I am always looking for GMO free items and this line has that as well as being gluten-free and sugar free. The sweetness comes beets! I have several friends who read labels and all of them confirmed that none of ingredients were known to be harmful all the ingredient lists were fairly short. I know sometimes I’ll read a label and not now how to even pronounce some of those items.
BeFitBURN: This is the first time I’ve taken a metabolism booster. It is true that I did NOT have any jitters but at the same time I did not feel like I was experiencing a rush of energy. The serving size for these are 2 capsules and each time I did take two. The instructions read to take before a large meal so I did noticing that I did not require my typical post coffee drink. Looking back I did not take a nap after any of my meals this past month.
BeFit Vanilla Whey: Delicious. I used the recommended 1 scoop. I keep my shake very simple. I would add frozen blueberries, banana, or cherries with a tablespoon of peanut butter. I was a complete hurry this month so time for laying out everything. This was better than expected and I would like more as this did keep me full from 7 AM till 3 PM several times. I know I am bad about eating all my meals but I had various places to be and did not have any time to get food. I did not try this mix with nothing in it, each time there was frozen fruit and it was filling and tasty. Nutrient wise this was perfect with 100 calories so I could have added more peanut butter for fruit, protein at 22 grams per service then 2 grams of carbs. I couldn’t believe it. No sugar but stevia.
BeFit PRE Pre-Workout: My favorite product! I have never taken a prework out before and now I do not want to live without it! I eventually started carrying this in my back pack since I work out in the middle of the day. I have heard of people taking pre-workouts and acting weird but this one was perfect. I didn’t feel rushed and I enjoyed the flavor so much. I got the fruit punch flavor which is sugar free but used red beets for the sweetness. I am a fan of adding beets to my juices so this was perfect.
The workouts: BeFit is a channel on YouTube with over 2 million subscribers for fitness and these are challenging work out. I did these workouts as well. I did a snapchat video several times after the first week AFTER these work outs and yes I was dripping in sweat.

An extra day in 2016 for Leap Year! An extra day to get something done! I spent today doing extra studying and a couple of errands for my home. This past month I have found that even using a meal planning service is not enough for me. I was spending extra time with my mom and she had other idea about dinner then I would stay with her all day before heading to class for the night. My schedule was all over the place.
I had two choices: fast food or a hearty bar.

The night I got my pack to try I had just spent 6 hours at school and was too exhausted to make myself anything to eat since I had to read a chapter before my morning class the next day. I completely tore into the Apple Cinnamon.
Best part about these bars is how filling there are for how small they are. I don’t like a massive chunky even doughy texture like some protein bars have. These bars have 15 grams of fat & 10 grams of protein so they are meal replacements. I didn’t worry about the carbs in the Apple Cinnamon as that was 15 grams. The flavor is rich but not candy bar like. I ate this one around 9:30 PM and didn’t get anything else to eat till 7:30 am the next day. I wasn’t hungry or get a headache. The ingredient list was also very clean and used organic ingredients. That is very important for me since I do not want to get a sugar rush then slump back when I need to be focused.
I tucked the chocolate away for another day.
The other day came.
I want to be able to say that every day I pack a wonderful lunch or that the places around me have great food but that is not where I am. I spent several hours working on a science lab then decide look down and see that my time to work out is here. I could blow off my work out to rush home to get lunch but I end up missing a much needed work out. I reached in my bag & decided to try the chocolate.
I’m a major chocolate fan. I love dark, cocoa chocolate. I love flavor. I wasn’t sure if this bar was going to taste like chalk or have that candy bar taste. These bars are thick and are not excessively sweet so unlike ones I’ve previously had which were over priced candy bars. The chocolate has a flavor that feel filling. Both bars contain iron & I had no issues with my tummy or felt bloated afterwards.
I am glad that I was sent these bars as I’ve been looking for one that isn’t made up of entirely so much sugar or carbs. I like how filling they are and provided enough for me to be focused when studying and also as fuel for a workout.

Much respect to all my college students trying to make sure to keep the nutrition in check. Crazy thing is I have a project due today and found out I can’t get my access code I need for that project. I learned how to ride a bicycle in a single day.
I was five years old living in New Mexico. I would see the neighborhood ride their bikes around and heard them come back talking about what they saw on the other streets. It sounded so exciting to be able to go to the nearby elementary school playground on weekends with no parents around! Only issue was I had no idea how to ride a bike.
“Mommy, you give me a bike for Christmas?” I asked my mom. I kept asking my mom. I asked my dad. I did not get the bike for Christmas. I did not get the bike for Valentine’s day. I didn’t see a bike on St. Patrick’s day. No bike on April Fools day. Why were my parents not giving me this bike?
They knew how scared I was of falling down. I had no problem with jumping off tables or swinging on a tire swing but the idea of falling down with metal frame scared me. I would ask about what happens when people fall. I saw the boys in the neighborhood show off their scared. I told my mom about it since she can’t stand the sight of blood. Once she ran around the garage around holding my brother screaming when he had a bloody knee from riding his bike. I did not need that type of drama at 4 years old.
I just needed a bike so I could go to the elementary’s school playground on the weekend. Then it happend. The best time of year: my birthday.
My mom had already taken me to test bikes (major tease). I did not talk to anyone on the ride back home because they had played mind games having me sit on a bike. This bike. That bike. What color do I like? Yes I want a sparkle in there some where. Omg, then ride back home with no bike! Ugh. At this point I felt like it wasn’t going to happen. I just forgot about it the time rolled around for one of my legendary birthday parties.
My daddy came inside & asked me to follow him into the backyard. There was my brand shiny pink bike. It had a white banana seat, pink Barbie frame with pink and with white streamers! It was official! I had wheels! It was okay that I am not even a fan of pink because wheels means playground time! I could not wait to hit up the elementary school.
First, I had to finish celebrating my birthday. I go hard on my birthday every year so after my neighborhood friends and their parents set it off all day. I went to sleep that night without even sitting on my bike. However, I did make a lot of plans with my friends and their siblings to hit up this park. I remember telling everyone one about my bike, it was of my favorite parties before I was old enough to legally drink alcohol. All my family was there, it was the most sugar fueled party I’ve ever had.
The next day was rough. My mom told me before I even had breakfast that I had to learn how to ride the bike today. My dad told me outside and showed me what to do. Yeah, just peddle. Okay. Then came the stress about falling. I ran inside & my mom said, “You are going to fall but you are not going to go through the floor! Just get back on and keep going. Do not come back inside until you know how to ride that bike.”
Stressed. I’m five years. I’m out of control awesome in my pink Barbie bike but I had this requirement that I would be riding my bike before I could back inside. “Hello? Is someone coming out here with me? No. THANKS TEACHERS! Nobody is going to help me for the rest of the day! Fine! Barbie bike are going to make this happen.”
I asked my mom how long I was learning how to ride my bike. In my memory I was out there for 6 hours. It was DUSK when I got back inside. My mom insists that it took me an hour. Time goes by slow when I’m frustrated.
Of course I fell down. I laid there thinking, “This isn’t too bad.” I would get back up. I would ride the curb with my foot out so I could balance myself. I rode my bike in all sorts of weird ways EXCEPT the way my dad showed me. I would look back at my house & my mom would look at me & seeing I was not riding my bike. Then finally, I pushed myself off the curb and thought, “If I fall, I fall, I’m ready for a snack.” A couple of times I thought about how life would be if I never learned how to ride a bike and would be forced to live on the streets.
Then I rode my bike. Just rode up the street for a block as the sun set. I stopped at the curb where the stop sign was. Then I pushed off again headed back to myself. I was riding my bike! Streamers in the wind, my long shadow on the pavement. I saw my parents look at me ride my bike and it was everything I wanted. They waved me back inside. It was too late to ride to the playground but there was always tomorrow. I’m glad my parents let me learn how to apply what they showed me with out giving me training wheel. Then the pressure of a deadline. Teaching by stepping back is the best way I learn. Sweet freedom. After that my parents always had a hard time keeping me home.
Do you remember your first bike? How did you learn how to ride a bike?
I’ve been working on ways of keeping my goals and at a couple of points felt like I wanted to quit. It is so much easier to say things like I am as good as I am going to ever be. Quit is way easier. However, I have worked around that because I do want to do more. Here are 5 tips that have helped me this past couple of weeks.
Package deal: This means that I am including what I need to do to reach my goal in something I have to do anyways. I know I am going to do something physical first thing in the morning so I decided to include it be physical for only 5 minutes – then if I want to continue I do. So far I usually do because I’m already working out, as long as I have no time restraints then I’m going to continue for another 25 minutes. I have also heard of people who go bed in their work out gear so they is little excuse to why they are not working out.
Track progress: I do this daily when it comes to my water and nutrition. This is part of my daily journaling to see what I have done and to reflect on how I feel with those results. When I don’t reach my goals the reason falls behind being mindless or not planning, that gives me the reminder that I do need to prep and plan. I place a check mark by what I am completing for the day which gives me a visual of my progress.
Adjust goals: At times I make grandiose goals without thinking of how much time, energy I need to put to get results or worst – not realize my goals are just completely not realistic. Instead of just quitting, I have adjusted what I can do. I even see if my issue is the timing or do I need someone to help me. I can always take more time to reach my goal but I don’t want to quit. There are SO MANY instagram challenges and at one point I was thinking of joining FOUR different ones – but instead I am just going to do ONE per month.
Trust the process: Reaching the next level is going to be a challenge. I have wanted to quit many things I have done tin 2015 RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. I am glad that I completed that progress, kicking and screaming so my reward was more powerful because I earned it. Also I have had to let go of things not serving my purpose – that was the hardest. I let go and had the time to learn and find mentors to help me.
One bite at a time. I have heard the quote: You eat an elephant one bite at a time. Of course I am not going to eat an elephant! I do know this means that to get a major goal that I am going to have to break it up. My goal is a certain weight but I have broken that up into this month to focus on tracking what I am eating. Every single step is just a bit of the whole and so I focus on what I can do that day.
I also make sure to listen to daily positive affirmations FIRST thing in the morning which motivates me better than coffee.

Surrounded by my Atrium Obscurum friends last night was the perfect way for me to ring in 2016! I spent this past week visiting with dear friends who have moved to from Dallas so I went to Beauty Bar two nights in a row as well as finishing up year end financials for a consulting I work with. I had a busy week which meant I decided to end the night at 3 A.M.

Today I had a wonderful day with my close friend. We had a disappointing brunch at Vickery Park; burnt omelet, wrong eggs on their order, the side of lemons was served a dirty dish. Yet it was awesome to be able to watch the Rose Bowl Parade for the first time ever. I need to quit trying to act like a pub has good food. “Go to pub & drink!” I need this tattooed to my hand. This is officially the first New Year’s day in my adult life that I’ve been so productive! After lunch I had the pleasure of being invited to a sweat at the NAC in Red Oak, TX. I haven’t been to a sweat in an outdoor lodge since this past summer so I felt like this was the hottest sweat I’ve ever experienced. It was also wonderful to catch up with the family and regulars who I have not seen in some time. Sweating today was the perfect way for me to reset for 2016. Sending up prayers and being able to sing some songs I thought I had forgotten was the best part.

After we all enjoyed lunch, including black eyed peas, my mom sent me a picture of green bananas with one word: balones YES! Balones de verde is my most favorite snack! Typically balloons are fried but today we baked them. My mom had already bought chicharrones which puts this to the next level. As delicious as balones are they are simply not photogenic! I will have to figure out a way to dress this up.
How does one clean up after a sweat? They have a sweet herbal bath! This what I’m about to fall asleep again. I smell like apples & cinnamon.
I’m fresh and ready to tackle my 5 January goals. I decided to stay away from making broad New Year’s resolutions and break down: be grateful, increase fitness, blog more, learn new hoop dance techniques & make yoga a daily habit.
Journal twice a day I already journal either in the morning or in the evening but this month I want to journal twice. Over the summer I learned that I need to focus on being grateful. Just journaling ONCE a day about my gratitude has made me feel great and stay motivated. I am hoping reading this goal expands my happiness TWICE.
Track meals’ nutrition I have been repeatedly told that I need to track my macro nutrients for at least the past 5 years but I figure I assume that I am getting enough vegetables and fruit as well as estimating the exact sugar. I am committed to tracking with a nutrition with an app & I can also log in online.
Post 3 times a week This has to be my favorite since I’ve had it several times in 2015. The final two weeks of the year are always so busy that taking the time to sit down, write, edit, upload pictures was too much. Next year I need to embrace automation for the last week! However, I have several pending blogs so having 3 posts a week here will give me a strong start.

30/30 hula hoop challenge A hula hoop support group on Facebook has posted that Hooping.org is hosting a “hooping for 30 minutes a day for 30 days in January” challenge. I’m already DONE. It feels perfect to be back hooping again. As always, I look forward to seeing what other hooper are going to be doing by searching the #hoopingdotorg3030 hashtag.
January Yoga Challenge Kino Yoga & Beach Yoga Girl are hosting this Instagram challenge which will raise money for Twoloha, a non-profit movement to give help & hope to people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury or suicide.

Spent time at White Rock Creek this past week. Saturday there were no kayaks to rent so my best friend and I decided to just reserve a Tandem Kayak for Sunday instead. We headed White Rock Paddle Company made a reservation and were told it included life jackets at well.
Next day we arrived at 10:00 AM, signed a waiver, got our life jackets on and were settled into our tandem kayak by the staff then pushed off the shore. I can not believe I have never been on a tandem kayak before and for a while I kept forgetting how to sit rocked the kayak so much I was worried I would tip it over.
Thought this steam boat was so cute! I found out the creek goes all the way to Plano, so if I was headed that far from White Rock Lake I would need some steam energy to make it back and forth!
This October day the creek was NOT rapid or scary and my friend told me it rarely is. See how calm it is – looks just like a mirror.
I was told that I would NOT be getting wet if we went in a kayak. I was wrong. Every time my paddle went from one side to the other more water would fall on me. I decided to pull up my capris and let my legs get wet.
Look more people in the creek! I liked how we were not alone but the creek was not extremely crowded.
We only spent an hour going up and down the creek. There was a point when I wasn’t even paddling anymore because I wanted to take pictures and then I did a Periscope to share how beautiful it was back there for about 5 minutes. Overall I recommend going out during the day and spending time in nature. I absolutely love that we have this space so near the city.

Do you have a favorite outdoor activity you like to do?
Learning how to balance on a slack line has never been something I’ve been interested in before since I worry about falling off anything that is not attached to the ground! However, I had a free Sunday afternoon and was invited to bring my hula hoops out & learn how balance on slack line a couple of weeks ago!
I really just came out to hula hoop at one of my favorite parks and tried this out. I got across completely once and then balanced on a higher and longer slack line. I’m not worried about falling – look I’m not that far off the ground. I was worried about falling at a strange angle. The slack lines are not line walking across a roof, there is lots of swaying involved so I did not want to attempt to walk across. I kept wanting to just run across but that didn’t work.
Here are tips when you start to learn to walk on a slackline from my experience that day:
- One foot at a time. I would stand there with no way of moving forward because I was about to fall. I was told to just keep one foot on the line then move the other one up – see picture below.
- Look straight ahead. As much as I wanted to look where my feet were, looking forward helped my balance. That is how I got straight across.
- Start a bit from the edges. I wanted to stand on the edge of the line, however, the higher lines do not have this same stand and standing there also tears up the stand itself. The good part is that you don’t start off thinking it is going to be easy. Yeah, the entire slack line is going to be unsteady at first.
- Shoes or not shoes? I did WAY better with no shoes. In the picture below I had shoes but eventually took them off. I even like to hula hoop in nature with no shoes – pending it is NOT a dog park! I should probably experiment more with this.
- I am going to say keep trying, I was really exhausted when I got on the higher slackline but my friend was OBSESSED with going back and forth.
I ended up having instruction on how to balance on the longer, higher slack lines from yogi, Woni, and was able to work through that.
Hope there are more of these as the weather is no longer so hot AF.

Monday is my favorite day of the week because I always set myself up for the rest of the week. I have not gone out for the nightlife regularly in two weeks because I love sleeping. I need to reset and now that I’m ready to get back on a dance floor!

An excellent question! Thankful that BOTH of my parents very much kept dancing well into – well they STILL dance! Dancing is my go-to heal all instant feel good thing to do. Even if for 5 minutes a day, hoops or not, I dance. I notice I’ve been car dancing more. I just got the SoundCloud app on my phone again so I’ve been blasting awesome mixes. I have no shame in getting down at a stop light and I can FEEL people staring at me.
Self-love is behind motivation. This past retrograde I was feeling super down, one of my reason to recharge.
I have been upset with others in the past and I just have to let them go. I do make it official and let them know I can not have them in my life & it is sad. Even if they are only hurting their own self, I care so much about my friends that it eats at me. Best thing to do is just just forgive them. Everyone is their own person and I must let them go through what they need to.
Always loved this quote! At times it can be scary to go for what I want and feel all brand new like, “Who am I?!?” Don’t you hate it when you talk your own self out of being a bad ass?!
I have been reading some folks posting they do not get started because they are waiting for everything to be perfect. Some are waiting to have the best camera equipment, best layout before going live with their website, the ultimate user name, all kinds of excuses. I used to NOT go to the gym because I did NOT have “nice” work out clothes. I was broke back then & I had to go to the thrift store and was SHOCKED that I found brand new work out clothes WITH THE TAG STILL ON – IN MY SIZE! I swear, the universe was like, “Girl, you going to the gym TODAY!” It surprising how much will fall into place, lessons I learned, people who helped me along the way when I just went out and did what I had to do with the little I had to start off with.
