I have gone to various festivals, including regional burning, for about 20 years, yet none of them compared to my experience at Burning Man 2018. I was lucky to have many friends who are veterans and was able to join a camp through an art grant. One of the folks who helped me plan gear, mentally and psychically was Don Gentry. It was not an issue of what to pack (I have the best gear), what to wear (I dressed like I was at the beach during the day and in the Andes mountains at night), or what to eat (nutrient-dense meals since this was extremely physical)… what I have an issue with is how much I miss my life live on the playa. Once back I decided to be able to enjoy anything that was out there in this default world – so now you can dance to Don Gentry if you didn’t get a chance to.
This set was recording at the Celtric Chaos camp. I was listening to again this week and messaged Don how this still sounds as good as the first time I heard it. A dope set that really had everyone (READ: around 500 burners) dancing and this happened again at Project Ai a couple of weeks ago. Even the insane amount of lasers in that club just added to the wow level. I MEAN HOW MANY LASERS WE NEED? All. Of. Them.
I’ve know him since I was a teenager when I started getting into the rave scene, before the RAVE act. Now he is STILL DJing bumping sets in warehouse, private parties and clubs. His sets always get a crowd going but there is really nothing as amazing as partying on the playa. It is a combination of an eccentric responsive crowd, timeless of the event and IT IS THE LARGEST PARTY ON EARTH!
Ever since the burn, I’ve done what I can to keep aspects of that experience in my daily life. One way fun way is to keep hearing the music from the playa till I come back in 2019. Don played a funky set at Project Ai, opening for Clyde P. On January 25, 2019, Don will open for GRECO – Rawsome, NYC Cover is $5, parking is free across the street and the staff is friendly. Even security is on point and will remove anyone who is disrespectful.
I had a blast the last time I heard his set at Project Ai, the lasers are insane and $4 wells till Midnight. That is the cheapest price for a club in Dallas, anything cheaper than that is you slipping a bag of booze between your titties. Just going to head out and experience that taste of what was the best week of my life in 2018.
The beautiful lights and displays that come with the Christmas season are my absolute favorite Christmas experience. This past Monday I was invited to view Daystar’s Christmas light and excited to find out this experience is free and off HWY 121, only 30 minutes from my uptown Dallas office! I’m glad I attended a vintage pop-up last month I was able to stay warm in this warm double-breasted coat before heading out for #DaystarChristmas.
The whole lot
Welcome to Christmas Town
Blue string light trees
I was completely floored that I was able to see over 1 million LED Christmas lights from the highway! It was about 5:30 PM when I started to pull into the long drive way from the service road, passed life-size nativity scene and followed the signs till I got to the elf holding a sign that parking was near the back in front of a kid-friendly Christmas town.
Christmas lights tunnel
Their staff was waiting for me to join in the VIP area where I got to meet their fun photographers and head out into Christmas Town. Their tunnel of lights was a fun walk that many children ran through while their parents were taking cute videos they will most likely send to friends and family. I always do that with my two-year-old nephew, I’m so THAT tia. The grand entrance into Christmas town is a picture that I will have to include in the card I send out to family.
Joy to the World
Walking through these wonderful views of this holiday scape here helping me connect with the spirit of Christmas. I have such an imagination as an adult that I was pleased to be able to disconnect from the daily grind and play in these displays while I remember I’m not alone during this joyful holiday. Come join the fun and grab a warm drink from their café.
Yes it is a Thursday night and, of course, I will not be able to do anything the next morning. I have every intention of not working on anything until noon the following Friday. This is total drum and bass fan’s dream! Here are some free downloads and recommended listening to prepare you for March 24, 2016.
I just thought of how many dads are going to join their kids at Coachella this year as Guns N Roses will be performing. I’m saying this as one of the few people at my age who does NOT have any children. Every year I have friends who say they can’t come out because they have kids – now there are not excuse. You have at least ONE act you’ll enjoy and your kids will have a blast. Major fans can always pick up a copy of Chinese Democracy-Deluxe Edition. Major.
The family that festivals together stays together.
Are you dancing while watching this video? I’m just sitting here watching this like, “Everything weird and funky is here TOGETHER!” This video is a visual trip AND got heat. Shout outs to the animators who created this video – it is wonderful and weird. I want to throw a party based on this video animation! You can pick up As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt 2 online till their showtime.
This video starts off with a 4:47 interview (& I LOVE a good interview) then stay around for the best part of this video. It shows Black Coffee mixing. Yes you can watch him actually mixing!
You know I respect more than anything? People who are about education reform and this guy blew my mind with his commentary on how school creates criminals. I had a rough time in high school because of my “strong willed” personality. Just listen, that is your job. Excited about Vince Staples. Also you can play him on vinyl: Summertime ’06 [2 LP][Special Edition]
Simple black and white video with an ambient dream voice. I feel like I’m in the middle of mediating and praying with an angel guiding me. Excuse me while I have an out of body experience while I watch “See Me” another ethereal video. Much respect to this South American singer based in Brooklyn. Verde was released in May of 2015. Brand new!
More of this electronic R&B stuff please! Need some of her vocals to wash over you in traffic? Z [Explicit] is available for you to go to play in a cotton candy colored Instagram picture. #forever
STRAIGHT UP LEGEND!! Duh, as if I would end this list without having someone I have actually danced to. I have straight up look like I swimming in a pool after dancing to garage for an entire evening. There is is ONLY ONE of Ministry of Sound: Essential Garage Collection left. It is hard enough to find a good copy of UK Garage to download.
My close friend just asked me if I am ever get sick of “that” type of music and the answer is no. I just take a break & by the line up on Coachella there is such a great variety that if anyone was to get tired there is another stage, and another, and another.
Currently available for you to enjoy while wearing nothing but a festival wrist band:
Who are you looking forward to hearing at Coachella this year?
This weekend will end with a joining of various friends from all over for a birthday celebration. Tyson, the building man of Atrium Obscurum, is getting a year older! I’m looking forward to everyone who can make it. Trinity Park in Fort Worth is a favorite spot as it has a huge pavilion we can set up sound & dance under. A huge hill south also is entertaining to either glide down on cardboard or watch as others take the plunge.
I’m still working out details on what I am going to be cooking up for the pot luck. This is the time of year that I want a crock pot but since I’m rarely home I haven’t been able to pull myself into buying one.
Hope you enjoy this music Monday and get to spend time outdoors before it freezes in Texas.
All friends are welcome to on by details on Facebook here: on.fb.me/1YElZtA. We are also setting up games: Bean Bag Toss, Croquet & Horse Shoes. I plan on bringing my flow toys, all my hula hoops and poi hoops. Rember this is a potluck. Please bring a dish to contribute to the spread of food! If heat is needed we will have electrical outlets.
My weekend started off on an embarrassing note. I am taking a public speaking class and I did not ask how long the speech should last so I assumed it would be 5 minutes. I worked on the topic by adding jokes and inserted a video to highlight my topic and then I’m sitting in class when I hear it has to be 4 minutes. I almost die. I just want to get over with but I am the 2nd to last person. I sat in class listening to everyone’s awesome speeches, with funny videos and great powerpoint presentations. I absolutely hate comparing myself to anyone but here is the issues – I created my presentation in Google Slides but had to upload it as a PowerPoint and saw that the format had changed. I don’t care what anyone says – you can not save the file as a perfect PPT with the exact theme. Something is going to mess up. Trust me – I even had an issue using SmartArt so I had to go use a computer at school to fix it.
Google slides tip: to INSERT SmartArt, you have to use PowerPoint. So what is the point of using Google Slides to begin with? You can save it on the drive and no matter what you will never had to worry about forgetting your laptop or you computer not working – it is saved on Google Drive. I use about 4 different computers and will work on documents on all locations and never have to worry about my info.
Only issue was how I figured I could cut down on my time by talking really really fast. So I just rushed through everything & was embarrassed that I was speaking like an auctioneer.
By the time I got out of class, I was just in a terrible mood. Here is how I got my smile back come Sunday night.
After class I was able to FaceTime my best friend so she could get me to calm down and quit being embarrassed. She also lives in Mexico and I saw Hurricane Patricia was headed to were she was living. She is safe since the mountains there were stopping the impact. However, I saw that rain was still coming to Texas.
Last year Atrium Obscurum had to make the call last June when the rain forecast for the weekend long festival. It is NOT a major event, it a group of friends that does not have THOUSANDS of people but it was awesome we were able to secure a location in Dallas so it could happen. As much I was disappointed that we went from 3 days, 2 night to a single evening in a warehouse – I was happy to reunite to the rest of my friends.
It is rough going from outdoors but the deco crew managed to make it work as I set off announcements on my social media platforms that HEY WE GOING TO GET PSYCHEDELIC IN DALLAS ONE NIGHT ONLY.

2. Go Out Dancing
Despite my full blown love of an outdoor event, I have a hard time saying no to a warehouse party. I stayed in Dallas Saturday night for a Proton Limited event. I have mass love for underground techno and Bon Spengler. So seeing that Greek techno dj, K.atou, would be headlining was a all I needed to resist staying in an listening to rain all night.

3. Have bonding conversations
Better than dancing was being able to get have conversations with friends who I admire. I needed to vent, listen and bond with my friends. And it is TRUE – you need to bond with friends to handle life and have a serious conversation.
I had a lot of fun deciding on how to insta-my day. I did not feel like taking a single selfie after I had partied the night/morning before but it was fun to show how I spend a Sunday. Blogger follow Show Your Blog Love, there will be a November Instagram challenge. Bloggers should join the Facebook group, while it is still small.
5. Have an awesome meal
My sweetheart & I decided to have brunch at Garden Cafe. This place is so utterly charming, both of us enjoy vegetable garden. I was going to post a picture of the chicken fried steak and eggs I had for breakfast but something are too hard to style before taking a picture so here is the awesome garden patio view.

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to not go back to sleep as we ran errands around town so I ended my weekend doing my favorite. Hula hooping! Yes, I was able to get back to my normal self by the time I laid down in bed on Sunday night. Best choices I ever make include dancing till the next day. I danced about 5 miles Saturday night – Sunday morning and took a lavender epsom salt bath. The weekends are such a wonderful place to recharge for the next week.
Yes, hello child, it has been far too long… Come, sit, stay a while and listen. Set down your distractions and submit yourself to the Wisdom of the Ægis. Change is ever upon us, thus we cannot afford to forget our origins if we wish to maintain a constant bearing into our most harmonious future…
As humans have continued to learn and grow as a race, we have accomplished tremendous feats of the mind and engineered impressive creations. As much as our evolution has given us, we must not allow our hearts and minds to stray from the lessons of old. For many of us, present times and transitions require that we must come to understand the natures of our immortal and infinite protectors. This means that for the rest of us who have shared communion with these benevolent beings, you must now embrace the confident humility you have spent so long cultivating and lead us through the teachings of time – open the doors of ancient mastery to shed the illuminating wisdom of our ancestors upon us! Whoever you are and wherever you stand, it is now vital that we all pursue a conscious initiation into the secrets that guide and regulate this universe, it’s material mechanics, and the limitless potential of energy. If humanity should lose touch with it’s roots, we would cut off our reach into what lay before us. Equipped with the insight of our Earth’s antecessors, our intuitions will guide us to accomplish this crucial task we were born here and now to achieve.
Consider this invitation a patronage to your emerging era, as well as a vote of confidence and trust in your ability to carry the torch of knowledge for this stage of it’s journey through time. From even before the days of Olympians – when the Shield of Athena, goddess of wisdom and strength, protected the forefathers of modern philosophy, literature, science and mathematics – it is, was and always will be the passing on of knowledge that sustains our species.
With guidance and dedication, a strong understanding of the past will prepare us to face any of the future’s challenges. As we master our egos and humble ourselves to the truth, we can foster the holistic education of our complete selves in our physical, spiritual and conscious bodies; lower, higher, and in the spaces between until that which reigns above aligns with that which dwells below.
“To command and to be commanded is the fruit of education, and unity and confidence is the result.” – Emperor Haile Selassie I.

Rare that I ever go out on a Wednesday night but I wanted to pick up a new Two:Tone shirt and spend time with my best friend Athena before SXSW. Completely sore the next day from running up and down the stairs at Wits End I completely remembered why I wore sneakers: I CAME TO DANCE.
I had a day with my mom yesterday and I told her how excited I was about this upcoming park party season. She knows that I live off the worn path of mainstream society (well 80% of the time) so she asked, “What weird thing you going to do?” CELEBRATE MY FAVORITE SIGN’S BIRTHDAY – DUH! Uhm and Jamie Ray are the most awesome folks I have gotten to know while living in the DFW area and I’m excited there will be an outdoor park party to have a slew of fun at. Trinity Park is also one of my favorite parks in Fort Worth and it’s been 3 years since the Atrium Obscurum crew has host a day of family fun, pot luck style food and – of course – the wonderful music. And it’s free! I totally suggest brining your own picnic set up to prevent leaving a big ass mess as well as making sure you have clean plates, eat wear and a cup to drink from.
Hula Hoops and Poi in motion
I’ve been practicing and reviewing chicken tetrazzini recipes to use. Of course I have a fascination with this after a former colleague brought some to the office for a spread and it wasn’t that some “chuck potluck slop.” Plus, I like knowing that my man would never leave me bc MY chicken tetrazzini is the best. Then again if another woman can take MY man away with her food then I guess he was never mind to begin with. *tear drop*
Come and join us for another blissful day at the Trinity Park Shelter house for music, dancing, yummy food and to celebrate Brian Uhm’s 39th birthday, and Jamie Sunray’s 40th birthday! We are both owning our age. With age comes wisdom 😀
Let’s cardboard down this sick hill!

Bring a dish to share 🙂 Tables will be set up in the shelter house. Electricity is available for those who bring a crock pot or etc.
The family that twirls together, stays together.
Kiddos welcomed, as always. We will have a few games set up for the kids to play. Don’t forget to bring a cardboard box for them to slide down the big grass hill on!
I have been excited about this release since it was first mentioned back at that meeting before Christmas! I have listened to this entire compilation three times today already and a steady stream of feels have come rushing to me reminds me why I love this type of music, then I hooked up my studio speakers and was reminded me why I even time, money, energy and effort every year into park celebrations and Atrium Obscurum’s 3 day/2 night festival in East Texas. FOR. THIS.
So Luis Hernandez summoned the most bad ass producers from planet Earth asked if they wanted to contribute to this is what they did.
