I am preparing to take my finals for the courses I need to earn an Associates of Arts Degree so I can transfer to a four-year university this week. I had already taken college courses since I graduated from high school and never considered that I needed more education since I am naturally intelligent. I learned how to do bookkeeping from the comptroller in the first company I worked in. Later I worked directly with a CPA. During that time, I would take accounting classes and go to tax workshops.
I did not like going to college. I would sit in class and be bored thinking about how am I ever going to use this? I enjoyed the courses I needed for working, payrolling, accounting, business classes. I regularly was promoted at every job I had for a decade. A decade!
I hit a wall in July 2014 and was told that I would not be promoted as I did not have a bachelor degree. I still remember thinking that I should go back to school full-time because of how unhappy I was with my career in general. I felt bored and ready to do something new. About a month later, I got hired to be an accountant at a not-for-profit which gave me a salary raise and I was able to apply more of the course work I had taken previously.
One day I was having lunch and realized how much I missed interacting with other people. I did not train anymore, I did assist customers. I did full-cycle bookkeeping but I was missing the aspect of interacting with other people. After 7 months, I decided to go back to school full time and finish the courses I needed so I could get a degree.
Never again would having a degree hold me back & I never wanted to this intelligent person without proof. I struggled very much knowing that I would have to stop working to get an education and I would have to pay for that. I am thankful to have all the support, financially and mentally to go back.
Now back to studying, my first final is in 18 hours. Much love to all the college students taking in all the information at this time. I do know that of all the things I have that can be taken from me, my education will be with me forever.
Are you working towards a goal that has taken longer than the usual time? Let me know in the comments.

I read the Power Path and like the idea of having my monthly goals aligned with the forecast per this website. If anyone has a strange personal issue that I can’t help them with I direct them to this website and every time they come back to me saying it is strange how the forecast makes sense.
Review of last month!
Write 30 minutes a day: I only missed writing ONE day a week last month! That is a win for me.
#BeFit workouts: This was awesome. These work outs a real challenge and I enjoyed being able to put them into my day. Tomorrow I’ll have a full review of how it went and do a give away for BeFit nutritional products.
3. #RockYourHandWriting, #PlanWithMeChallenge, #FMSPhotography: Fail. I had way too much to do to follow along or keep up. I did have a couple but too many challenges.
4. Infinite Circles Challenge: Same here. I need either a tripod or a friend (I need time to even meet with a hoop friend!) to record me.
5. Virtual Assistant Website: I have started on content but due to my work load this I do not want to launch anything extra. I am planning on moving in a couple of week and can’t imagine trying to complete any extra work. I am glad I have it. I want to be full time come May.
Now for the goals for this month!
1. Consistent space dedicated to project. I have tried to study at home but ended up being asked to help with domesticated duties, run errands or I have just zoned out completely to do something else. I have noticed that yesterday my FIRST day in the math lab on campus I spent 3 hours and got the assignment done. 3 hours. That is so much time but I need to focus on this and get this work done.

2. Find a new home. I’ve been staying with family as we save money to get a house and I feel completely lost, excited, nervous and ready to have more space of my own. Right now my home office is in a corner with no natural light and I’ve been most of my work on campus. That could be a good thing consider I am more focused there. Yet I would like to start having guests over this summer and doing cook outs and themed parties. I’m so ready!

3. Volunteer. I have applied to a couple of places to volunteer for the next couple of months. One is a public hospital greeting visitors and having them feel welcomed, perfect for me. The other a natural preservation organization of an area I visit regularly. I’m excited about that one as anything nature related in exciting to me.
4. Block out distractions. Past two weeks have been heavy with distractions online conversations, meaningless gatherings, and putting energy into tasks that can be batched together. I have tried to multitask by listening to my text being read to me while I go through e-mail but the problem is I’m neither listening to my text or reviewing my e-mail carefully enough so both tasks are half assed. So now am blocking out time to fully pay attention to what I am doing. Homework and studying in a lab or library. Then work at my desk. Then domesticated duties in my domesticated space!
5. Simplify day. I do so much every single day! I live in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, well right in the middle yet I’ve noticed that I will be all over this huge space and be overwhelmed with things I WANT to do instead of what I NEED to do. I have to focus as this past year I had more flexible time with going to completing this part of my education. I will start working full time in May so I need to strip my commitments down to what I need to reach my goals. That doesn’t mean I will stop socializing! Spending time on dance floors is how I survive.

CHAT WITH ME ON:
Excellent month in January on the goals, but one of the most emotionally draining!
Review of my goals for last month:
Journal twice a day: HALFWAY I missed about 2 days but every day I had much on my mind so I poured out every night. I had a heavy heart when I went to bed and it felt so good to release onto paper. I also have become obsessed with the Bullet Journal community that I was also making quote inspired spreads. Two days of not journaling – not bad. Journaling helped me not only stick with my goals but to adjust them so I could fit them in.
Track meals’ nutrition: DONE! I keep a food log in my journal – some days I would move it to SparkPeople’s mobile food tracker. I would like to find a better tracker. I used to use FitBit but I gave my tracker to my mom. Today she told me she lost it. (“THANKS MAMI!”) Let me know if you are using a tracker that you like on your smartphone. I know their are a bajillion. Most of my friends like FitnessPal. It is always nice to have friends to keep me accountable.
Post 3 times a week: NOPE. I experienced personal grief for a cultural icon halfway through the month – then complete shock as my best friend’s son passed away. I cried for about two days and it was the first week of school. I had mentioned earlier that I have tried to batch post on the weekends but there was much to do with a memorial. It was hard for me to write just for the blog, but I decided to fall back on making writing for 30 minutes a day to be a goal then pull that writing on the blog.
30/30 hula hoop challenge: DONE! I made hula hooping a part of my daily affirmations in the morning instead of listening to music. I did not post a single video/image to my instagram. I like my account to look polished as possible so I created a 2nd account for challenges but I am already managing 3 different instagram accounts. I decided to set a day aside for each of my accounts so I can plan. There is not a tool that posts directly to instagram AND posts hashtags so this is sticky for me. Either way, I hooped 30 minutes a day.
January Yoga Challenge: Nope. Completely dropped the ball on this.
Now I do have goals for February!
1. Write 30 minutes a day: I learned how to use DeskPM. I will be pulling from blog ideas I have free written and use those as prompts. I am also using prompts from Blogher. I currently have pending posts that require polishing.
2. #BeFit workouts: These are quick 10 minute work outs that I am joining in with #SweatPink. So far they have been intense so I make sure to warm up by jogging or marching in place, then do a 10 minute cool down and stretching. I will be posting a review of these work outs and several other products later on this month. There will be a giveaway so WATCH THIS SPACE!
3. #RockYourHandWriting, #PlanWithMeChallenge, #FMSPhotography: These are Instagram challenge that I am excited about. I enjoy writing creatively. The reason I have kept a journal since I was 9 years old is because my mom said my handwriting looked like “spiders dancing” so she gave me a pink plastic cover journal so I could practice. Lettering is my favorite hobby now. I even pulled out my watercolors so I can start to use them for quotes. Not to mention I spent 3 hours with my planner getting ready for February. Then I wanted to a popular photo challenge. I am lumping these together because they fall under a similar group but are different. I find it even more challenging to create an image that all of the challenges could be in.
4. Infinite Circles Challenge: I am doing this in the Infinite Circles Community Facebook page. I rarely EVER post videos of myself hula hooping so this one is for Facebook. I made a fun spread. I hope I win a polypro hoop from Raye of Rainn!
5. Virtual Assistant Website: I bought a domain so I can start working on other virtual assistant projects. I have several clients currently but not enough work to save for some goals I have this summer. I have several mentors who have motivated me to creative a website so I can showcase what I can do. Exciting, that will be completed by the end of the month. I have over a decade of executive level administrative support with a focus on accounting. Virtual assistant freelance work is perfect for me since I’m always on the go but never far from WiFi.
Did you accomplished your goals from January? Have you ever used the Bullet Journal method before? What are your plans for February?
I’ve been working on ways of keeping my goals and at a couple of points felt like I wanted to quit. It is so much easier to say things like I am as good as I am going to ever be. Quit is way easier. However, I have worked around that because I do want to do more. Here are 5 tips that have helped me this past couple of weeks.
Package deal: This means that I am including what I need to do to reach my goal in something I have to do anyways. I know I am going to do something physical first thing in the morning so I decided to include it be physical for only 5 minutes – then if I want to continue I do. So far I usually do because I’m already working out, as long as I have no time restraints then I’m going to continue for another 25 minutes. I have also heard of people who go bed in their work out gear so they is little excuse to why they are not working out.
Track progress: I do this daily when it comes to my water and nutrition. This is part of my daily journaling to see what I have done and to reflect on how I feel with those results. When I don’t reach my goals the reason falls behind being mindless or not planning, that gives me the reminder that I do need to prep and plan. I place a check mark by what I am completing for the day which gives me a visual of my progress.
Adjust goals: At times I make grandiose goals without thinking of how much time, energy I need to put to get results or worst – not realize my goals are just completely not realistic. Instead of just quitting, I have adjusted what I can do. I even see if my issue is the timing or do I need someone to help me. I can always take more time to reach my goal but I don’t want to quit. There are SO MANY instagram challenges and at one point I was thinking of joining FOUR different ones – but instead I am just going to do ONE per month.
Trust the process: Reaching the next level is going to be a challenge. I have wanted to quit many things I have done tin 2015 RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE. I am glad that I completed that progress, kicking and screaming so my reward was more powerful because I earned it. Also I have had to let go of things not serving my purpose – that was the hardest. I let go and had the time to learn and find mentors to help me.
One bite at a time. I have heard the quote: You eat an elephant one bite at a time. Of course I am not going to eat an elephant! I do know this means that to get a major goal that I am going to have to break it up. My goal is a certain weight but I have broken that up into this month to focus on tracking what I am eating. Every single step is just a bit of the whole and so I focus on what I can do that day.
I also make sure to listen to daily positive affirmations FIRST thing in the morning which motivates me better than coffee.
What are tips that you do to make sure you reach your goals?
I did not have New Year Resolutions because as they stay the same old: lose weight, be healthy, don’t get in fist fights, don’t mess up everything. I do monthly goals. Now to review my goals for January.
Journal twice a day: Killing it! I did a twitter chat with BlogHerU about time management and found out ways to organize my day. I found out about bullet journal. I did not buy a new pricey journal or even a new crappy journal. I just started use my Chinese pug journal with some new tips. My favorite part is creating new spreads and lists as I need to. This is helping me to check off m daily tasks I need to complete without limiting my space. Some days take one page – some days take 5 pages. Also I have been using my colored pens to draw which is perfect for my creative personality. This video of a bullet journal flip through from Boho Berry has changed how I will journal forever! I know it will take some practice before my lettering and doodling improves. I got an awesome e-mail from Moxie Girls and decided to take the major points to create this motivational page:
Track meals’ nutrition: I had a rough start with this because I was trying to use apps. After I got my bullet journal method set up, I decided to log my food there so I can see what I am doing. Apparently I am a fan of 2nd dinner! This past week I have been having one dinner then a snack. This should help my budget as well. However, I very much enjoy these fine Dallas restaurants!
Post 3 times a week: I SMASHED it in week one but last Monday I had a major heartbreak to find out my creative inspiration had passed away. Last Monday I completely stayed of the internet because I knew that it would be too much for me on a personal level. So that was last week – this is a new week. I also decided to do more batch writing and scheduling since there are going to be entire WEEKS where I am just not able to do with life in general.
Bright side of the heartache, I decided to quit trying to be normal part 10. I always go through stages where I think I can suppress my creative needs and my desire to just be the weirdo I am. I don’t have a lot time here so I ended up getting purple hair.
30/30 hula hoop challenge: I am fully hooping 30 minutes a day every day! I am however NOT posting it on my Instagram account. I recently created a new account just for challenges so I don’t have any stress on if a pictures/video looks perfect. That account is completely for me to grow in whatever challenge I am working on.
January Yoga Challenge: Yeah, I completely did NONE of this. I had planned on doing yoga before bed but really after 8 pm I am still running around or completely wiped out that I don’t feel like doing yoga. I am just better in the morning.
I am glad that I decided to check in to see where I am at half way through the month so I can make adjustments to review my goals. There are none that I want to quit, just moving some things around such as doing yoga in the morning after hooping. Still not sure if I can do BOTH in one day.
Let me know if you are keeping up with you goals/resolutions. Are you making adjustments? Have you decided to quit?
Surrounded by my Atrium Obscurum friends last night was the perfect way for me to ring in 2016! I spent this past week visiting with dear friends who have moved to from Dallas so I went to Beauty Bar two nights in a row as well as finishing up year end financials for a consulting I work with. I had a busy week which meant I decided to end the night at 3 A.M.
Do not brunch at Vickery Park. This is ruined. pic.twitter.com/W3fzFaWMM3
— Ally Fiesta (@AllyFiesta) January 1, 2016
Today I had a wonderful day with my close friend. We had a disappointing brunch at Vickery Park; burnt omelet, wrong eggs on their order, the side of lemons was served a dirty dish. Yet it was awesome to be able to watch the Rose Bowl Parade for the first time ever. I need to quit trying to act like a pub has good food. “Go to pub & drink!” I need this tattooed to my hand. This is officially the first New Year’s day in my adult life that I’ve been so productive! After lunch I had the pleasure of being invited to a sweat at the NAC in Red Oak, TX. I haven’t been to a sweat in an outdoor lodge since this past summer so I felt like this was the hottest sweat I’ve ever experienced. It was also wonderful to catch up with the family and regulars who I have not seen in some time. Sweating today was the perfect way for me to reset for 2016. Sending up prayers and being able to sing some songs I thought I had forgotten was the best part.
Balones (mashed plantan bananas), eggs, cafe and la playa. Happy hump day xo A photo posted by Foodie | Naturalist | Blogger (@allyfiesta) on
After we all enjoyed lunch, including black eyed peas, my mom sent me a picture of green bananas with one word: balones YES! Balones de verde is my most favorite snack! Typically balloons are fried but today we baked them. My mom had already bought chicharrones which puts this to the next level. As delicious as balones are they are simply not photogenic! I will have to figure out a way to dress this up.
How does one clean up after a sweat? They have a sweet herbal bath! This what I’m about to fall asleep again. I smell like apples & cinnamon.
I’m fresh and ready to tackle my 5 January goals. I decided to stay away from making broad New Year’s resolutions and break down: be grateful, increase fitness, blog more, learn new hoop dance techniques & make yoga a daily habit.
Journal twice a day I already journal either in the morning or in the evening but this month I want to journal twice. Over the summer I learned that I need to focus on being grateful. Just journaling ONCE a day about my gratitude has made me feel great and stay motivated. I am hoping reading this goal expands my happiness TWICE.
Track meals’ nutrition I have been repeatedly told that I need to track my macro nutrients for at least the past 5 years but I figure I assume that I am getting enough vegetables and fruit as well as estimating the exact sugar. I am committed to tracking with a nutrition with an app & I can also log in online.
Post 3 times a week This has to be my favorite since I’ve had it several times in 2015. The final two weeks of the year are always so busy that taking the time to sit down, write, edit, upload pictures was too much. Next year I need to embrace automation for the last week! However, I have several pending blogs so having 3 posts a week here will give me a strong start.
Just hoop January! Let’s start our new year with a daily hooping practice! Who is in? Just like our last round, I will be reposting videos from those who are participating each day on Instagram with the #hoopingdotorg3030 tag. You can keep accountable here on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Check out the post on hooping.org for more details. 💗
30/30 hula hoop challenge A hula hoop support group on Facebook has posted that Hooping.org is hosting a “hooping for 30 minutes a day for 30 days in January” challenge. I’m already DONE. It feels perfect to be back hooping again. As always, I look forward to seeing what other hooper are going to be doing by searching the #hoopingdotorg3030 hashtag.
January Yoga Challenge Kino Yoga & Beach Yoga Girl are hosting this Instagram challenge which will raise money for Twoloha, a non-profit movement to give help & hope to people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury or suicide.

Last month I was able to keep up with goals, here is what happened in September.
Month of Yoga: that was a much needed activity. I did NOT however keep up with taking photos of myself every day. It would be easier to take these Instagram challenges in batches then post daily. I was also including a walk with my favorite white boxer and most of the time he wasn’t in the mood to wait around while I took a picture.
New Layout: got it – like this one a lot more. I also created a banner that I made in on Canva. This site is making it so much quicker to make pins but I’m still using Lightroom for photos. There are also tutorials on the site on how to use all the features and blog about design – real game changer for me! I able to use it to announce 500 Likes on my fb page. Perfect to use for making pinnable images and adding text to my own images for the gram & facebook.
Miracle Morning: this is everything! I have been able to start my day right by doing all of this. I really need to post to explain how this has created so much gratitude and progress in other parts of my life!
Find a co-working space: Ah yes, one thing that is hard. I have looked at several spaces and right now I think it better to meet clients at their office. I have a moved my day projects to East Dallas and am able to use this space but meeting clients is preferred at their office so I can learn them best.
Learn Pinterest: also, how to not blog for a month. I was sucked into a dark vortex of what pinterest is this past month. I spent time with my blog Facebook groups in linking with other bloggers and am now on multiple shared boards. I will need to create a blog on how to use pinterest the best.
Now to set up this month,
Get a blog planner: Just using my weekly calendar planner I adore but I’m starting to look at planner that are focused on blog planning since I also have to manage events, personal errands, family functions and school work. Also I write down what I eat. Of course there are a million apps but I like to also use color and draw.
Use my iCal for all meetings: Even twitter chats, webinars. Wow this month I went to several free webinars, 2 were for instagram causing my followers to jump (so worth it learning from these). This past month I have used iCal and it’s been working – as long as I have the alert on.
Post blogs multiple times a week: Currently I blog when I have some free time – which is rare. Remember time doesn’t just COME up, you have to MAKE time. A tip I found on a blog was to start a post with the headline then come back to it & even set a time for it to autopost so there is a deadline. I’m worried about my posts looking bad or unfinished – so this one could work. Right now, my aim is 3 blog posts a week.
Mobile theme: Although I like my current layout, I’ve seen some amazing mobile themes, while my mobile version is just the standard WP theme.
Morning fitness: Past couple of weeks I’ve been jogging trying to get to 5k and so far I have been doing a VERY slow jog. My goal for October is to get my run done by 8 AM. Hitting a trail around 10 AM feels like I’m wasting time since I get up, then get ready, run, have to come back and shower – get ready AGAIN. I don’t like the evening trails because it is too dark around 8 PM. Looking forward to greeting the dawn! Perfect weather for morning runs this past week.
What are goals are you working on for October?
You can review my September goals.
I have been back in the USA for an entire week and the whirl wind of celebrating the past week has settled and now I am feeling home sick. Yes, I miss Ecuador! I knew it would happen which is why I have planned out to keep myself busy.
Month of Yoga
I’m a MAJOR fan of instagram and would love to live on there. So I decided to join on a photo challenge sponsored by Alo Yoga and hosted by my favorite yogis: BeachYogaGirl & Kino. I posted mine for today and have been enjoying seeing everyone who is participating with the hashtag #BasicYogaMix.
Looking forward to seeing all these awesome grams during Yoga Month! This weekend in Dallas there are going to be several events as well as free yoga on Labor Day. I’m not sure where I am going to land come DFW Free Day of Yoga.
I had originally planned to get this site a new layout before I headed to South America but my designer wasn’t able to in time. Then I was in the amazons, the Ande mountains, the coast and the Galapagos Islands so I had little access to WiFi. Now I’m lookin over several designs!
I used to do that back in February and March last month which is what jump started me with learning analysts and social media management. The last month I was just flat out enjoying myself and being focus-less in paradise so now I have to get back on a schedule. Found awesome resources online FOR FREE !
Find a co-working space
I am currently working part-time for a consultant company as a freelance Director of Community for several of their accounts. This means I have NO OFFICE. Over the summer I was able to work at various internet cafes BECAUSE THEY ARE EVERYWHERE IN SOUTH AMERICA! Here in there states WiFi is every where. This means I could just work from home but I have so many different distractions. I am looking various co-working spaces as well as a using services such as mailing address and being able to network with anyone else working there.
I started to create pins for my posts this summer and saw a great deal of traffic. I personally L O A T H creating pins as I always assumed I needed to use Photoshop. I found Canva and took a quick online course to use it and now pins are quick. Heck, I am even using it to create social media covers for brands fan pages! It is so easy. Now I just need to learn more to help out for future campaigns I work on. I listen to the Social Media Examiner podcast and heard titled: Pinterest Marketing: How to Succeed on Pinterest. Now I want to learn.
What are your goals for September 2015?
Ah yes, April Fools everyone! I had to stay off social media all day long because the first thing I did was do an April Fool’s joke first thing in the morning and my friend got really mad at me. YAY! I’m really too old to be telling anyone AS A JOKE that I’m pregnant. However, it works every single time. Every. Single. Time.
I have a very clear goals for April.
1. Disconnect by 10 PM
I plan on going to Air Plane mode by 10 PM. Originally I tried doing this by 8 PM in January but could rarely get disconnected from the internet till midnight so now I am at a point where 10 PM is doable but still far cry from 8 PM. Just keep on working down from using my smartphone or tablet till I fall asleep cradling my precious, sweet internet.
2. Post 5-7 times a week.
Already! This will be the hardest thing for me to do since I made the change from being a music related blog to a lifestyle blog. I don’t like to talk much about my personal life but adding this into the mix will make sure there is something juicy to enjoy on a regular basic.
3. Do a couple of April challenges.
Instagram- I do NOT enjoy posting pictures on my Gram unless it is something that means something to me and will be interesting to my followers so I already never post any images for giveaways (WHO WINS THOSE ANYWAYS?!!?) nor I do post screenshot shout outs. However, today I saw the posts for #30PhotosInBetween was started by Helene In Between and it looks like some great photos to be a part of.
Dance- Hooping.org is having a 30/30 Spring Fling I’ve been hooping at least 5 minutes a day as a part of my morning ritual so I’ve been wanting to take this up to 30 minutes a day. Even if I can regularly get this to 15 minutes each day, I win! I’ll end up posting videos via my Instagram account (so follow me & let me know you are so I can follow you back) and tagging these videos #AprilHoopChallenge
