Social media detox Second Month

54 days into my social media detox. I’ve made some adjustments to how I’m limiting my social media intake.

Facebook: I use it as my link for event management. I invite users from my friend list to charity events and to friends events. So having an active account for two weeks just to read the reviews was not necessary but it was great to see those who went post media to the event page and talk about their favorite part.

Not posting any updates on Facebook as I honestly would get so much engagement I couldn’t keep up. I do update my user pic and banner so other users know I’m still active and so my friends can tag me for their events for cross promoting.

Messenger is active since I have a hand in helping various events and group chats are essential in organizing.

Twitter: love this new feeds after I found out a way to block certain words from my feed!

Find this option in:

Settings and privacy

Click content preference which helps out with all sorts of ways to view the trends and here is blocked accounts and Muted is accounts I like but post too often at one time! But I found out words after another user I deleted asked why in my DMs.

There are muted accounts and muted WORDS!!

Yes you can mute just tweets with that word. This is for all those people who can’t stand a very popular topic since it’s such a buzz kill.

Now I’ve picked a word, hide it from any viewing from everyone since the twitter time line includes when users I follow engage in tweets from users I don’t follow. Annoying, right?

Duration: FOREVER!

I’d like to make sure to keep my twitter feed more clean by never posting anything personal but I’ve talked to several users and they missed my personality in my feed.

Understandable.

Instagram. My crown jewel of time suck 💎 I’m here regularly because I love beautiful photos. I enjoy talking to my followers and getting feedback. I have real friendships with other bloggers where we talk back and forth till 3 am!

Keeping connected with people I’ve met during travels comes back to either WhatsApp or Instagram. I don’t post often but I make sure it’s a photo that represents me well. Right now I’m playing with night and day bc I’m both! I will dance all night but still show up to brunch with the family at 11 am. I want to do everything!

As for my feed, I’ve muted accounts and stories since I don’t want to fully delete accounts of my friends just don’t see them especially if they posts multiple times a day (please stop doing this) or their stories are just screenshots.

Easy to do – go to their account and click omg Mute.

Then select what to mute. Easy! Still friends but can check up on them if they engage with my accounts.

Limits: I have the twitter, Instagram and Pinterest apps on my phone again but do not use it during office work hours.

So what has changed? I’m all about e-mail now. I reply to e-mails within an hour. This has made much of my online business far quicker in decision making and has made me decide on what events to participate much quicker. I used to use social media to decide what events to go to based on who was going but now – if I want to go I’m going. If I have other obligations, I’m not. And that’s it. No FOMO. Bye 👋🏼

Upcoming ideas for the next 31 days:

  • Scheduled posts by automatic app
  • Clearing up ghost 👻 followers on Instagram
  • Limit time on social media once off work

Even those I use Screen Time, Downtime, I really just have a lot of messages. However, the quality is so much better! DMs in Twitter and IG during the day tended to be less informational.

Allowed apps

Over all, I’m more productive than ever!

Snapchat: Geotag Game – California, USA

Snapchat- Geotag Game

Snapchat is my favorite day to day social media platform because I can talk about what I am doing that day & it will completely unscripted and silly. I have done snapchat stories before to play out a situation that happened to be funny. I have followers and follow people from all over the world. It is always fun to send new users a picture that I am in Arlington working or going to class in Fort Worth or dancing the night away in Dallas (which is my current semester life). The snap I used above is from this fall with my brother at Levitt Pavilion in Arlington, a fun day of me showing my followers about a park series the city does. Of course I posted an awesome pictures of that concert on Instagram but snaps are more fun to see into the action.

Last week I decided to play the Geotag Game. It is easier when you have more people play. I sent about 20 people a snap to send me a geotag pic of where there were at. The winner of this round was Spencer making this geotag game the California edition! Yay, he sent me so many that after 24 hours I told him I didn’t need anymore since it would have taken forever to upload.

Congratulations to Spencer for winning this round & sending me over 50 snaps! Follow him on snapchat, speezo44, because he has a positive attitude and has fun days were he takes his followers into beautiful nature trips.

What are Snapchat Geotags

These are overlays that are created by artists then submitted to Snapchat. To use a geotag on your snapchat snap just slide your finger to the left till one shows up, unfortunately if you use a geotag filter you can not use another filter, such a fast forward or slow down.

Make sure to be able to have your location on to use the geotag filter. Notice I also have my settings to turn on Travel Mode so I don’t have snaps loaded automatically.

Check out the geofilter snaps I got!

I play games on snapchat from time to time so to join in for the next round add me on snapchat: AllyFiesta

Which geofilter is your favorite? You can submit your own geotag to snapchat, send me a snap if yours is used by snapchat!

5 ways to get out of bad mood

5 ways to get out of bad mood

My weekend started off on an embarrassing note. I am taking a public speaking class and I did not ask how long the speech should last so I assumed it would be 5 minutes. I worked on the topic by adding jokes and inserted a video to highlight my topic and then I’m sitting in class when I hear it has to be 4 minutes. I almost die. I just want to get over with but I am the 2nd to last person. I sat in class listening to everyone’s awesome speeches, with funny videos and great powerpoint presentations. I absolutely hate comparing myself to anyone but here is the issues – I created my presentation in Google Slides but had to upload it as a PowerPoint and saw that the format had changed. I don’t care what anyone says – you can not save the file as a perfect PPT with the exact theme. Something is going to mess up. Trust me – I even had an issue using SmartArt so I had to go use a computer at school to fix it.

Google slides tip: to INSERT SmartArt, you have to use PowerPoint. So what is the point of using Google Slides to begin with? You can save it on the drive and no matter what you will never had to worry about forgetting your laptop or you computer not working – it is saved on Google Drive. I use about 4 different computers and will work on documents on all locations and never have to worry about my info.

Only issue was how I figured I could cut down on my time by talking really really fast. So I just rushed through everything & was embarrassed that I was speaking like an auctioneer.

By the time I got out of class, I was just in a terrible mood. Here is how I got my smile back come Sunday night.

via GIPHY

1. FaceTime your best friend

After class I was able to FaceTime my best friend so she could get me to calm down and quit being embarrassed. She also lives in Mexico and I saw Hurricane Patricia was headed to were she was living. She is safe since the mountains there were stopping the impact. However, I saw that rain was still coming to Texas.

I found out that several of my friends going to both Something Wicked and Art Outside had major issues with the heavy rains in Texas this weekend. No, it wasn’t just wet. A train derailed, highways were closed and people went missing.

Last year Atrium Obscurum had to make the call last June when the rain forecast for the weekend long festival. It is NOT a major event, it a group of friends that does not have THOUSANDS of people but it was awesome we were able to secure a location in Dallas so it could happen. As much I was disappointed that we went from 3 days, 2 night to a single evening in a warehouse – I was happy to reunite to the rest of my friends.

It is rough going from outdoors but the deco crew managed to make it work as I set off announcements on my social media platforms that HEY WE GOING TO GET PSYCHEDELIC IN DALLAS ONE NIGHT ONLY.

2. Go Out Dancing

Despite my full blown love of an outdoor event, I have a hard time saying no to a warehouse party. I stayed in Dallas Saturday night for a Proton Limited event. I have mass love for underground techno and Bon Spengler. So seeing that Greek techno dj, K.atou, would be headlining was a all I needed to resist staying in an listening to rain all night.

3. Have bonding conversations

Better than dancing was being able to get have conversations with friends who I admire. I needed to vent, listen and bond with my friends. And it is TRUE – you need to bond with friends to handle life and have a serious conversation.

4. Get creative on Instagram

I took over the Show Your Blog Love instagram account on Sunday. View, comment & like my pictures!

I had a lot of fun deciding on how to insta-my day. I did not feel like taking a single selfie after I had partied the night/morning before but it was fun to show how I spend a Sunday. Blogger follow Show Your Blog Love, there will be a November Instagram challenge. Bloggers should join the Facebook group, while it is still small.

5. Have an awesome meal

My sweetheart & I decided to have brunch at Garden Cafe. This place is so utterly charming, both of us enjoy vegetable garden. I was going to post a picture of the chicken fried steak and eggs I had for breakfast but something are too hard to style before taking a picture so here is the awesome garden patio view.

Garden Cafe garden patio

I spent the rest of the afternoon trying to not go back to sleep as we ran errands around town so I ended my weekend doing my favorite. Hula hooping! Yes, I was able to get back to my normal self by the time I laid down in bed on Sunday night. Best choices I ever make include dancing till the next day. I danced about 5 miles Saturday night – Sunday morning and took a lavender epsom salt bath. The weekends are such a wonderful place to recharge for the next week.

What did you do this weekend?

Filming in Dealey Plaza for 11/22/63

Dealey Plaza Instagram

While a majority of posts I’ve read on social media are geared toward how sexy the producer of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 I’ve been excited about various instagram posts of Dealey Plaza.

Today I was headed to do some shopping in Oak Cliff I got stuck in the traffic nearly Dealey Plaza. I was annoyed because the shop I was headed towards closes at 7 PM so I flipped my situation and took some pictures. This one came out:

A photo posted by Blogger | Ambassador | Foodie (@allyfiesta) on Oct 8, 2015 at 4:17pm PDT

I found this video being reposted, from metsyc, on the gram and thought it was extremely creepy to watch. Last week I heard a presentation about visiting the JFK memorial and surrounding area so I watched several clips of the shooting on 11/22/63. Here is a more closer view of what was filmed from @delavannyjocruz:

I snuck into a room in the 6th Floor Museum and had a front row view all to myself but then they caught me and I had to go. Ignore my mumbling lol #JFK #JamesFranco #DealyPlaza #Dallas #112263 A video posted by Pilot (@delavannyjocruz) on Oct 8, 2015 at 2:20pm PDT

I’m not even a fan of cars but I know a sexy automobile when I see it.

Visited the set of Stephen King’s ’11/22/63′ today in Dealey Plaza! This is a shot of Elm St. filled with old cars and at the top of the photo you can see where the crew added a makeshift window on top of the book depository building to film the gunman through since the real sixth floor window cannot be opened anymore #112263 #dealeyplaza #danieldriensky #filmset #jfk #stephenking #sixthfloormuseum

I’m looking forward to seeing what the cast wears for the movie! I am SUCH a fan of clothing from this period. I used to dig for hours in thrift stores just to find the perfect dress.

So glad I wasn’t actually there during filming, if I would have heard a gun shot – I would have flipped. Watch this creepy clip:

We went for a walk downtown tonight and thought we saw a parade…I don’t think it was a parade. #stephenking #jfk #Dallas #JamesFranco #112263 #miniseries #dealeyplaza #houstonstreet #elmstreet #Kennedy #texas #president #potus A video posted by Jeff Lampkin (@jefflampkin) on Oct 8, 2015 at 6:03pm PDT

And of course here is a Dallas PD car! You know how the department auctions off old cars? I would take this one. Then turn on the lights when traffic is too thick!

Have you ever been on set of a historical movie being shot? Or stuck in traffic while they were shooting a film? I’m enjoy history and since I had just heard about the JFK memorial last week these instagrams came at a great time for me to review the entire historical event.

Screw the 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness game

Cancer Awareness

Pink washing is sick and disgusting way to have people believe they are doing something for the breasts of the sisters, mothers, daughters and female friends. Ugh, I loathe October already because I have to see those pink ribbons pretending they are actually make any difference for breast cancer. So instead of getting rid of products with known cancer causing ingredients we put a pink ribbon on it? Excuse me while I barf. Now there is a GAME on Facebook just in case you have never ever heard of cancer.

Only awareness here is we are trying to get drunk

Only awareness here is we are trying to get drunk

You should not have liked or commented.
Now you have to pick from one of these below and post it as your status. This is the 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness game. Don’t be a spoiled sport. Pick your poison from one of these and change your status:
1) Diarrhea again?
2) Just used my boobs to get out of a speeding ticket.
3) How do you get rid of foot fungus?
4) No toilet paper, goodbye socks.
5) I think I’m in love with someone?
6) I’ve decided to stop wearing underwear.
7) It’s confirmed – I’m going to be a mommy/daddy.
8)I Just won $900 on a scratch card.
9) I am a lesbian.
10) I’m getting married.
Post with no explanations. sorry I fell for it too.
Looking for your post. Ahhh don’t ruin it.
(Don’t let the secret out either)
And remember it’s the 2015 Breast Cancer Awareness…..lol got em now your turn.

I am here spending the summer in Ecuador because my mother has recovered from cancer & we want to spend time with our family. I am fully aware of cancer. My aunt had breast cancer. I was 9 years old when I found out that cancer is something that may require you to remove a breast. There should NOT be any kind of game for cancer awareness. I am not insulted nor offended but as soon as I saw that my comment on a random update was a G A M E for cancer awareness I just thought of everything I have been through as the daughter of a cancer patient. I just sat here and felt that this game would help nothing.

I like how some people say not to be a “spoil sport” and just play along on Facebook. I am not going make anyone’s life and their time spent in hospitals and the tears and all those emotions into a game. I am not sure if my mom will be 100% cancer free but the thought of her life being a game is such a strange thing to consider as a game.

One day she just said, “If I die, I die, it is okay.”

Standing with my mother at Rio de Atacames

Standing with my mother at Rio de Atacames

If you want to raise awareness for cancer it makes sense to boycott all products that contained known carcinogens. There are so many links on how to avoid cancer that probably ONE of those ways would be better than updating with some

Cancer awareness is not a game. Cancer is a part of the reality that some people have to live through. As a person who has a history of cancer on both sides of my family it is very clear and real that I do not need a game for awareness. Right now there are people who have loved one holding on to this world who really do not need any kind of game. It is their life or their death.
